About the Topsoil Calculator

This calculator estimates the amount of topsoil needed for your landscaping project. Enter the area (length × width for rectangular, or diameter for circular) and desired depth to get volume in cubic yards or meters. Includes compaction factor and cost estimate.

Standard depth: 4–6 inches for lawns, 8–12 inches for gardens. Topsoil is sold by the cubic yard (27 cubic feet).

How to Use the Topsoil Calculator

Note: Volume = Area × Depth. 1 cubic yard = 27 cubic feet = ~13.5 bags (2 cu ft each).
